Four days to go - Radio Scotland and having a rest...
Four days to go till I set off. It looks like there will be some publicity out there soon so watch this space...The Ayrshire Post and Radio Scotland are both interested and hopefully I will have contact with both on Monday - the day I set off. Probably the Janice Forsyth Show on Radio Scotland Tues 30th July at 2pm...
Would you like to support Knit 1 Bike 1?
Meanwhile I am still deciding what not to take with me and the pile of stuff keeps on growing and then shrinking again. The yarn is all ready to go and is the most important thing though!
Been working on the Isle of Mull Ferry today - doing the funnel now. Just hope the real ferries are running okay on Tuesday and all the other days I will be using them, although I can understand the workers' concerns of course.

Countdown - 5 days to go; Dalmellington to Prestwick ride & more...
Yesterday I cycled 36 miles, Dalmellington to Prestwick and back again. Only 5 days to go until I set off for real. The back wheel of the bike is now fixed and the new hub had begun to quieten down, following a rather loud rattle to begin with. It is still making my knees a bit stiff but it's probably because the gearing is different, it being a Sturmey Archer hub - the last one was a 13 year old SRAM.
36 miles is rather further than I choose to go but it is just a little bit more than the most I will need to cycle on Knit 1 Bike 1. (Day 32, 30th July 34 miles Newtonmore to Blair Atholl). I have done hills, cycling to New Cumnock, done the distance, practised camping cycled with the weight and had a mock pack up - though I need to do that again.
Have still got a rather alarming amount to do on the route planning - the devil is in the detail, such as the ferry I want only goes on Wednesdays...but I am halfway through the more detailed work on it.

New bench at Patna - a rest on the way home. |
Putting the new tent up- 700g but with new pegs and a groundsheet protector it is 1.2kg still good. Old one was 3kg! |

Bike problems sorted (probably!)
Thought all was ready in the bike department a couple of weeks ago and just wanted to put the new tyres on the bike. Having learned the knack of how to get the tyres on the 12" Brompton wheels, I realised the back rim was worn. Two weeks later I have a new back wheel and the bike has been back up to Dales Cycles for a check up due to the hub gears being so noisy. Takes time to bed in apparently but it is a bit like being on a train...

What more does a girl need?
Just practising for knit1 bike 1 in the lakes this week. Ferry ambleside to windermere then cycle loop to kendal. Chips for lunch and I've got my knitting with me! Well I am on a spinning retreat with friends from dumfries guild so at least I will have something to show for it!
knitting is more toe up socks using cotton and Elastine sock yarn - great cos it goes in the washing machine and does not go stiff and baggy like 100% cotton ones.
